The Moderna Adolescent/Adult Monovalent (12+ years, red cap) and Moderna Monovalent Pediatric (6 years - 11 years, dark blue cap) will expire in early April and there is no anticipated shelf-life extension. Ordering for these products will close on Friday, March 10 at 5PM on myCAvax. Providers may continue to order Moderna Bivalent vaccine products for all age groups and Moderna Monovalent Infant/Toddler (6 months - 5 years, dark blue cap).
Providers should be mindful of individuals starting their primary series with Moderna Monovalent (12+ years, red cap) and Moderna Monovalent Pediatric (6 years - 11 years, dark blue cap) vaccines. Depending on the date, individuals may not be able to complete their primary series with these products. A mixed primary series composed of any combination of Moderna, Novavax, and Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines is not authorized. However, if the same vaccine is not available to complete the primary series, CDC guidance states “a different COVID-19 vaccine may be administered to complete a primary series at a minimum interval of 28 days from the last COVID-19 vaccine dose (no Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System [VAERS] report is required).
After March 13, Providers must order from the following alternative vaccines for individuals seeking monovalent, primary series vaccines.
- Pfizer Monovalent Adolescent/Adult (12+ years, gray cap),
- Pfizer Monovalent Pediatric (5 years - 11 years, orange cap),
- Novavax Monovalent (12+ years, royal blue cap)
